According to Breitling Navitimer “rules” every Breitling Navitimer watch has to have a standard movement, however the Navitimer 806 with Valjoux 72 movement has a non-standard movement. Why has Breitling decided to create this watch? Maybe it’s to make collectors lose their minds with envy with just the mention of it.
This mysterious and elusive Breitling watch was created in the early 1950’s. It was named the Navitimer 806 because it’s identical to an earlier Navitimer 806 with a standard movement. However, collectors and enthusiast were surprised to open it and find a Valjoux 72 movement.
According to Jean-Micheal, creator of www.navitimer.net:
We even do not know that if the watch had the reference 806 ! Some of the pictures I have of this watch do not show the “806″ engraving on the back. The only country where I have regularly seen some Valjoux 72 806 is Japan. Japanese are very well informed collectors and the prices of vintage pieces are very high, that perhaps explain why it is possible to find some there….No idea of the number produced, but this was not limited to few pieces, some thousands might have been produced.”
Definitely an interesting story of the Breitling Navitimer!

Just as coveted as a new Breitling watch, vintage Breitling watches have inspired new versions as well as watch collector’s immense intensity to collect them. Sometimes a vintage Breitling watch is just as important as a new Breitling watch.
My favorite site to browse and shop for Breitling vintage watches would have to be NexTag a site for comparison shopping. Sellers have a pretty good collection of Breitling vintage watches, here are a few of my picks:
1. 1950 Breitling Premier for $2,500.00 is GNT certified and fully serviced and inspected. This Breitling watch is a 18k Rose Gold vintage with manual movement, silver dial, gold hands, gold hour markers and a brown leather band.
2. 1980 or earlier Breitling Nos Pupitre Chronograph has manual chronograph, tachometer, bushed stainless steel case, date window, orange hands, light brown dial, and cowhide padded strap for $2,995.
3. 1972 Breitling Vintage stopwatch for $550 is a split second model with two button mechanical manual wind, stainless steel case, black bezel, red 60 second hand, red and black 15 minute counter, and black 30 second counter. The Breitling timer on this Breitling stopwatch has the original sticker on the original packaging.
What other places do you recommend for buying Breitling vintage watches?
