The Brietling for Bentley GMT Watch

We’ve discussed and reviewed a lot of Breitling watches here at the Breitling Watch blog, however there are a few that we have skipped over.  So, over the next week we are going to look at the Lost Breitling Watches.  These are watches that we have skipped over, didn’t review, or just forgot about.  The first is the Breitling for Bentley GMT.  With so many watches in the Breitling for Bentley Series Motors Collection, we seemed to have forgotten to cover this one.

The Bentley GMT is unique because it’s original.  It’s not based on a previous Breitling watch or Bentley car.  It’s not a watch inspired by a past movement or feature… it’s completely original and new.

The first thing you will notice when looking at the Breitling for Bentley GMT watch is the bracelet. The Speed bracelet of the Breitling watch has been integrated into the case with a new lug design that looks edgy, funky, and stylish.  For a contemporary look a GMT rubber strap exclusive to the Breitling for Bentley GMT watch will do the trip.

The next thing you’ll notice is the Breitling for Bentley GMT watch dial, which is inspired by Bentley dashboards and is adorned with totalizer rims. But that’s not what you will notice about the dial, your eyes will immediately focus on the red triangle tipped additional hour hand performing a full turn of the dial… but taking all day, 24 hours, to make the complete turn.  The red triangle tipped hour hand is the key to the multiple time zone display system. The push piece on the left side of the case is what is used to move the hands forward one hour at a time to display the second time zone.  All this is going on while the Breitling for Bentley GMT can still tell the difference between day-time and night-time hours.

Additionally, if you want to glance at a time zone without having to set your watch to that time zone, Breitling for Bentley includes a bezel does just that. On the Bentley GMT a rotating inner bezel displays the names of 24 cities for instant read off.  These cities include London, Sydney, New York, Abu Dhabi, Tokyo, and Bangkok.

Additional Technical specifications include 28,800 vibrations per second, 100 meters of water resistance, Breitling Caliber 47B movement, screw-locked crown, cambered and glareproofed sapphire crystal on both side, and a 49 mm case diameter.

Breitling For Bentley Mark VI Complications 19

Breitling for Bentley watches all have an affluent meaning and historical relation to Bentley motors.  The Breitling for Bentley watch series of Mark VI watches tell a story dating all the way to 1946 when the Bentley Mark VI came out of production in Crewe as the first Bentley ever produced in those workshops.

Bentley Mark VI

Today, the Breitling for Bentley watch, Bentley Mark VI Complications 19 pays homage to that prodigy Bentley car.  The Bentley Mark VI Complications 19 has a chronograph mechanism and a calendar that recognizes day, date, month, and remarkably, moon phases.  It’s so proficient that the Bentley Mark VI Complications 19 needs no adjustments except on a leap year.

Little things on the Mark VI Complications 19 hint at the Mark VI release in 1946 including the grooves on the platinum bezel which represent Bentley control buttons, or dial colors based on Bentley cars, or even the shape of the push pieces which was motivated by the Mark VI.  The video below shows how the car looks cruising down the road.

Technical specifications for the movement of this Breitling for Bentley watch include a Breitling Calibre 19B, a chronometer certified by the COSC, mechanical self winding movement, 28,800 vibrations per hours, 39 jewels, and 1/4th second chronograph (30 minute and 12 hour totalizers).

The case of the Mark VI Complications 19 includes a choice of steel or platinum bezel.
